ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP
In September of 2027, I will lead a dedicated workshop to photograph the iconic and ancient landscapes of Tasmania. Tasmania is a primordial landscape of relatively untouched beauty. It offers outstanding opportunities to create iconic photographs of its rugged coastline, ancient forests and dramatic mountain peaks. During this workshop, we will visit multiple locations around the island, offering opportunities to photograph a variety of landscapes in different lighting conditions.
This is a unique opportunity to travel and photograph a local full-time professional photographer with more than 30 years of photographic experience that can take you to the best locations that are off the beaten track and at the right time – when the light is best. You’ll be spending eight days (seven nights) with others who are just as passionate about photography as you are, and to ensure everyone gets plenty of individual attention, the maximum number of participants is capped at just six. We will travel in two large modified 4-wheel drive / mini-bus vehicles to provide ample space for camera equipment and gear.
We will be staying in both hotels and guest houses that are functional and clean. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all included and will generally be held at the accommodation where we are staying. However, this workshop tour is all about photography, and we will be putting in long hours in the field to ensure we get the best possible light for photography. We may take food and drink into the field to ensure we are in the right locations to get the best possible light.
This workshop is about photography and lots of it. During the workshop, we will go through camera settings in detail and the correct techniques for creating strong landscape photographs. We intend to ensure you get the best possible results from each shooting session. We will be providing instruction in the field and will be on hand for any advice you may need. As time permits, we will also cover some aspects of post-production in the evenings.
If the idea of photographing the spectacular and ancient landscape of Tasmania appeals to you, then now is the time to register for your place. Places in this workshop are strictly limited to just six photographers, and once they are gone, the workshop will be sold out.
Accommodation: Our accommodation for this workshop will be a combination of hotels and guest houses that provide convenient access to our shooting locations.
Wildlife: Landscapes will be our primary focus for this workshop. However, there will likely be opportunities to observe and photograph wildlife, including both marsupials and birds, during the workshop.
Dietary Requirements: If you have special dietary requirements, we will do our best to accommodate you. Please ensure you let us know when you make your booking.
Travel: We will travel by commercial plane from our starting location in Melbourne airport to Tasmania. Once in Tasmania, we will travel by private 4-wheel drive. Typically, there is no significant hiking during the workshop.
Equipment: Zoom lenses provide the greatest flexibility for photographing the landscape. Recommended Lenses: Wide Angle: 16-35mm, 14-35mm or equivalent. Mid Range: 24-70mm, 24-105mm or equivalent. Telephoto: 100-500mm, 200-600mm, 400mm, 500mm or more. A selection of Neutral Denisty and Graduated ND filters and tripod are strongly recommended.
Who is it for? This workshop is ideally suited to landscape photographers looking to capture images of Tasmania's pristine wilderness and coastlines. There will also be limited wildlife opportunities during this workshop. However, our primary focus is on landscapes.
If you are excited about travelling to Tasmania with a small group of dedicated photographers to photograph landscapes, then now is the time to secure your place. Places are very limited; once they are spoken for, that’s it.
