ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP
This is a unique and private workshop for a private individual to photograph wild landscapes in northern Iceland during winter. We will travel by private vehicle for the duration of this workshop.
This photography workshop will last for 7 days (6 nights). We will stay in local, comfortable hotels and guesthouses. With luck, we may also see and photograph the spectacular Northern lights as we traverse the winter landscape.
There will be some moderate walking on uneven ground. A reasonable level of fitness is therefore recommended.
Accommodation: Our workshop accommodations will be a combination of hotels and private guesthouses.
Photography: The winter landscape in northern Iceland is breathtaking in its raw beauty. During this workshop, you will have many opportunities to make landscape photographs, and there will be a need for both wide-angle and telephoto lenses.
Dietary Requirements: We can accommodate dietary preferences on our private workshops.
Travel: We will travel by private 4-wheel drive for the duration of our workshop.
Equipment: A wide-angle zoom lens and tripod are recommended for landscape photography with a combination of both split neutral density and ND filters. There are often frequent opportunities for Northern Lights photography when weather and cloud cover permit.

WORKSHOP ITINERARY
We officially begin our workshop in the small town of Isafjord, northeast Iceland, in the afternoon of March 12th. Weather-dependent, we plan to drive to Hvítserkur Sea Stack - the Troll of North-West Iceland, where we will spend our first evening. If weather and conditions permit, we will attempt to photograph the Northern Lights over the sea stack.
From the Hvítserkur region, we will travel further east to the geothermal region of Myvatn, where we will spend two nights. Whilst in this region, we plan to photograph the geothermal features of Namafjall as well as the spectacular Godafoss, Detifoss and Selfoss waterfalls. We may also photograph around Lake Myvatn and explore its surrounding landscapes.
From Myvatn, we continue our journey east, southeast, to the small town of Hofn, where we will be based for one night. From here, we will photograph the Stokksness coastline as well as the surrounding landscape areas.
From Hofn, we travel to the famous Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon area, where we will spend one night. Whilst in this region, we will photograph the ice on the black sand beach as well as icebergs in the lagoon. We will also visit the smaller, lesser known (and more photogenic) lagoon nearby.
For our last evening, we will stay in the small seaside town of Vik, where we will photograph the basalt sea stacks and coastal landscapes of this spectacular region. We will then return to Kevlavik late on the 18th of March.
Weather in Iceland: The weather in Iceland in winter can be dramatic and wild. During this workshop, we expect to experience sun, snow, sleet and rain at various times. Along with dramatic weather come dramatic light conditions, and there are often opportunities to capture incredible photographs during challenging times. We reserve the right to make last-minute changes to the itinerary to both avoid bad weather and to take advantage of good weather and light as the conditions permit. Delays due to weather, closed roads and avalanches are a fact of life in Iceland and are to be expected. We can take no responsibility for weather-induced delays and ask for your patience if we are delayed by weather for any reason. We strongly recommend you allow a minimum of two days after our expedition in case we are delayed on our return.
